BEIJING-HANGZHOU GRAND CANAL MUSEUM

Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal, with a length of more than 3200 kilometers, is the longest and oldest canal with the largest work volume in the world. It has a history of 2400 years and witnessed the ups and downs during the development of the country. It is a legacy that is alive and still functions well until today. This project, located at Tianjin, aim at presenting the canal culture and contributing to its future development. The general form of this project is a ring. The exhibition hall is inserted in a ring slope of more than 600 meters long. The spatial direction follows the time sequence following which spectators can get a general idea of the changes and development of Grand Canal from past to present. The slope surrounds an atrium with an enclosure of many cubic "villages". The water is introduced, and the ring building and cubic villages are suspended over the canal, to create the whole canal atmosphere.
